Sara Steinberg, PhD is a licensed psychologist working with children, adolescents, adults, and families. Dr. Steinberg received her B.S. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her doctorate in clinical psychology from SUNY Stony Brook. She completed her predoctoral internship at Long Island Jewish/Hillside Hospital in Queens, N.Y. Dr. Steinberg completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Cognitive and Behavioral Consultants, LLP. Dr. Steinberg serves as a voluntary faculty member in the Department of Psychiatry at Weil Cornell Medical College- New York Presbyterian Hospital where she mentors trainees.
Dr. Steinberg has extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and has particular expertise in the treatment of depression and other mood disorders, anxiety disorders (including panic disorder, generalized anxiety, OCD, social anxiety, and school refusal), and eating disorders/body image concerns. She also specializes in treating individuals struggling with difficult life transitions (including college and becoming a parent), stress, and relationship and family difficulties. Dr. Steinberg also has experience treating ADHD and behavioral problems among children, adolescents, and young adults. Dr. Steinberg has experience working with couples, families, and with parents of children with emotional and behavioral difficulties. She has received specialized training in mindfulness-based CBT, and utilizes mindfulness strategies in her work with children, adolescents, and adults.
Additionally, Dr. Steinberg has extensive experience conducting trainings and workshops on a variety of topics for students, trainees, professionals, and parents. She has given presentations and workshops on CBT including CBT for school refusal, CBT for eating disorders, CBT for children and adolescents, conducting CBT in schools, DBT for multi-problem adolescents, and DBT in schools.
Over the last several years, Dr. Steinberg has consulted to several local middle and high schools who are implementing DBT programs within their schools. She has also provided CBT supervision and consultation to school psychologists, counselors, and social workers. She has received specialized training in conducting CBT in schools, and has helped school-based professionals implement evidenced based treatments in schools.
Dr. Steinberg has conducted research on adolescent depression and romantic functioning, and adolescent-parent relationships. She has co-authored professional articles and book chapters, and has presented research at conferences on a variety of topics. She is an active member of the Association for Advancement for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies and the New York City Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Association. She served on the planning committee for the 2008-2010 annual programs for the International Society for the Improvement & Teaching of Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Dr. Steinberg has served as an adjunct clinical supervisor at the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, Yeshiva University/Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She has over a decade of experience providing clinical supervision to students, trainees, and professionals.
